About Us.
The Abyssinian cat is one of the oldest known breeds. In appearance, Abyssinians strongly resemble the paintings and sculptures of ancient Egyptian cats which portray an elegant feline with a muscular body, beautiful arched neck, large ears and almond shaped eyes.
Elves is a NZCF registered Abyssinian breeder, dedicate to raise beautiful, healthy and great temperament Abyssinian cats. All our Abys are from a PRA, CEP290, FeLV, FIV free cattery. All of our cats and kittens are registered with the New Zealand Cat Fancy. We breed and show all the standard Abyssinian colours; Tawny, Blue, Cinnamon and Fawn.
Elves is located in Hamilton. We are very proud of our facilities and how our cats and kittens are kept and raised.
Kittens ... We breed for temperament and are well known for the quality of the kittens we raise. The kittens are all raised in our home where they can adjust to visitors and normal household noises, and learn acceptable etiquette before going to their new home
ELVES
Abys are also known as "The cat for people that prefer dogs" because of their dog-like nature. They bond exceptionally strong with their owners and tend to act very dog like. They will greet you at the door and anyone else who enters your home, they are exceptionally inquisitive and will "help" you do everything and in most cases insist that they know a better way of doing it. They are very quiet vocally and have a special vocal sound when speaking to their humans. They adore high places so the top of your kitchen cupboards will be a sleeping spot. They are not floppy lap cats and when they want pets they are very insistent but in play mode or when killing feathers they are focused on what they are doing. They are easy to train with a little effort. We have an Aby …WOW….with the animal trainer at Warner Bros on the Gold Coast. WOW has been taught any number of things including surf board riding, skateboard riding and more.
Our Abys are exceptionally tolerant and level headed possibly due to the fact that our sons drags them all over the house. But seriously, we are well known for the temperament and demeanour of our Abys. The intact male stud cats we adopt out are almost universally labelled with "not a stud cat's boot strap" as they are so calm and gentle with their female counterparts. The temperament and demeanour is developed mainly by very selective breeding in our import stock and the manner in which all our animals are treated.
